From the fall of 1928 until 1961 the Kansas City Star published quilt patterns for quilters. The newspaper's rural editions reached several states throughout the Midwest and many quilt patterns that were published were submitted by readers. For many years there was one per week. Then there was a lull with only one pattern published monthly. But all in all, there are 1,001 of these classic patterns. But where can a quilter find them today?

Harold and Dorothymae Groves of Kansas City, Missouri took it upon themselves to hunt these patterns down and were able to locate all 1,001. They have received permission from the Star to reproduce the patterns exactly as they appeared many years ago. They are compiled into 10 looseleaf/spiral bound volumes, plus an index, called "The Kansas City Star Classic Quilt Patterns."
