Spiro-Glyphics (28" x 37")

Dynamic interplay of two blocks - one paper pieced, the other raw edge appliqué - generate enough synergy to spiral out of this world. combine small amounts of batiks with black for drama.

This is a 6 hour workshop. The paper pieced block is a simple square-in-a-square that even a beginner can master. The globe block is a quick trick with a very simple template that EVERYONE already owns, but I will have a large supply on hand to give away. Blocks are pieced in the morning and the afternoon is spent learning the basics of on-point settings (side and corner triangles) and the easy, magical mitering method for creating positive-negative borders.

While this can be sewn with regular quilter's cottons, batiks are preferred for the curved pieces since the thread count is higher and can stand the handling and manipulation of fabrics. All blocks can be made from fat quarters, so it's easy to get the variety needed with minimal waste.

$5 Pattern Fee includes: all patterns, templates and multi-page handouts, including foundation papers for the paper pieced blocks.
