Carpenter's Wheel - 3 Hour Class

The Carpenter's Wheel is based on the 8-Pointed Star grid, which does NOT use equal sized units. It can be discouraging to draft and piece in the traditional manner. My love of symmetry found a natural fit in the Carpenter's Wheel block. But my love of quick results in quilting kept me from considering this because of the traditional piecing method of setting in the seams. Once I realized that I could simplify the technique and not have any y-seams in the block, I eagerly gathered up scraps of bright mottled, almost glowing prints and I made just one very large block.

This quilt uses just three colors and large patches to finish to 20" square. The addition of an outside border is an option.

Students will learn not only how to make this quilt, but tips and tricks on how to simplify other blocks that utilize y-seams. We will also discuss the 8-Pointed Star grid and demystify it!
